Basic Rules

  • Legal teams are 5 skaters and a goalie. Teams are allowed to play with “borrowed” players, but if there are less than 5 players, the game is recorded as a forfeit for the short-handed team.
  • 3 periods of 12-12-Time Left – The first two periods are stop time. The last period is running time.
  • No over-time during the regular season; tie games will be recorded as such.
  • Absolutely no slap shots allowed.
  • Offside & icing is called from the blue line.
  • No checking of any kind allowed.
    • Checking is any intentional body contact that causes a clear change in skating direction or impedes the progress of a player with or without possession of the puck. This includes but is not limited to any intentional body contact that causes a player to lose possession of the puck or any contact with players away from the puck that hinders their normal movement.

  • A goal is scored when a member of the attacking side propels the puck with his/her stick completely across the goal line inside the net posts.
  • Play is called dead as soon as the puck hits the goalie’s head, regardless of whether it results in a goal. The goal is not recorded.

  • Minor penalties, 2 minutes: e.g. tripping, holding, interference, slapshots.
  • Major penalties, 5 minutes: e.g.  body checking, spearing, flagrant fouls, butt ending.
  • Misconduct penalties – ejection from the ice and league: e.g.  abusive language, throwing equipment, fighting, disrespect of the officials, actions that incite or bait opponents.
